Gonna be a LONG project....   :P     But since I found some sweet treasure today, I guess I gotta make this thread.


Look what I found at the junkyard!   :o


One of the arms is bent and twisted up quite badly....but I still took it.  Maybe I can heat it up and straighten it out....or cut it apart and make a new one.  I'm hoping to find out who made them and try to buy a replacement for it.  Without doing any searching...my first guess is Superlift.  Look at the "S" cutout on the flat piece of metal.  Or maybe Skyjacker....?   

I also got the brackets to drop the I-beams, and I got the coil springs.  There was blocks under the leafs in the back...and I was going to grab em, but it was getting late, and I was hungry.   ::)    I can source those later.  And shocks too....I need shocks.   Is there anything I am forgetting?   Just to fix/replace that radius arm, buy lift blocks for rear, and a set of shocks.

What I mentioned, and what you see in the pics...only cost me 70 dollars.   ;D    Not bad, for most of the pieces of a lift kit that costs over 1500.

Well it isn't really moving anywhere....that was a sweet deal I just HAD to have, ya know?  I'll be broke for a while yet....MAYBE capitalizing on the occasional deal, but otherwise broke.

I was thinking about going back to the junkyard and grabbing the pitman arm from that wrecked truck I took the lift from.....but I fear it will be impossible to pry off.  How hard will it be to find a new one at a reasonable price?  I might go back and see if the rear lift blocks are still there anyway.  Even to get some long U-bolts for next to nothing is a good idea.  They're pretty pricey by themselves if you buy em new.

Sweet jesus!!!!  Is it spring yet??!?!!!   I need more money, so I can buy fiberglass....and DOM tube.....and ladder bars....and gears....and Deaver leafs.....and Fox shocks.....wow...this is going to be expensive.   How much can I get for a kidney?

Haha I think a kidney fetches a pretty good price on the black market. You could probably just buy a completely done prerunner if you went that route, haha

Hey....can I mount all my drop brackets and stuff without adding any lift stuff, or changing my shocks?  How will it affect the suspension geometry to install the extended pitman arm, and I-beam drop brackets and nothing else?   Since I already have the stuff....I'd like to get it installed and out of my kitchen, haha.  And I want it to at least look like I am trying to make some progress on this project.  I'm itching to toy with it a little.   I could paint up those brackets and mount them....and try to straighten out that crooked radius arm.

I'm so bored with not having any money..../yawn.    At least I finally got some extended brake lines...and short of having a pair of straight radius arms....I have the whole 6" lift kit ready to install.   But I'm dragging my feet, because I don't have a set of tires bigger than 30", and that's going to look quite silly.

I really wish I had a supply of tubing and steel plate.....I could make some new coil buckets and shock towers, and move some geometry around, so I can run my 30" tires AND the big coils/shocks without it looking stupid.

Yo duders.   Spent 12 hours today working on my truck.   Replaced some of the hard brake lines, and replaced all the hoses with extended stainless steel hoses.   Stuffed some lift blocks under the leafs.  That turned out alright.  But it took me forever to get it lined up properly to set up the blocks.....so I put a transmission jack under the diff and unbolted the driveshaft.  That made it much easier.   


The front was super annoying and terribly difficult.  The physical strain is intense.  All the bolts are about 1 1/8" in diameter.  It's crazy.   And I didn't have time to fix my taco'd radius arm....or mount the beam drop brackets.   So I just unbolted everything and installed the lift coils, pitman arm,  and shocks in the front.  I knew the caster and the camber would be WAY out....but I assumed it'd be ok to dick around until next weekend and I could finish it.   Well....I bolted everything together, and put the wheels on.   The camber is WAYYYY off....and the truck is nearly un-driveable.  Sooo....I packed up, and drove a summit car home.  I'll put the beam drop brackets on sometime during the week, after work.  And I guess I ought to try to fix that radius arm. 

How long do you think I can run factory radius arms with 6" of lift?


No progress pics as I was in a furious rampaging rush to get it done.   But before/after pics soon.

UPDATE!  Actually got some work done on it!   :o   

Pretty happy overall so far....but I have to move the radius arms forward.  Look how the front wheels are sitting back in the wheel well.  Hmm....Looks good though I think.  Still have so much to do.  Ugh....

Look!   Fixed the alignment....and remounted the radius arms.  Looks proper now, and rides smooth.  Woot!  I can finally work on other shit now...whew.







Check out my sweet radius arm that I built myself, using a badly taco'd Superlift extended arm.  Part of my cheap junkyard find.
