Dislocated shoulder sidelines Iain Hayden in Hayward, WI
9 March 2010, 10:43 am

  From OTSFF

It was a short weekend for Team -Yamaha-OTSFF Racing’s Iain Hayden at Round 8 of the ISOC Amsoil® Snocross Championship in Hayward, Wisconsin.

Hayden suffered a hard get-off in the first round of qualifying, which resulted in a dislocated left shoulder. The arm bone was reinserted into the shoulder blade right after the incident.

Despite the trauma to the shoulder, Hayden decided to see if he could get through the second round of qualifying but quickly realized it was going to be an exercise in futility. He was barely unable to hang on to his potent Yamaha FX Nytro® and had to call it a day.

“The track was pretty rough and my shoulder was hurting pretty bad, so after a couple of laps I knew there was no point in me staying out there,” said Hayden. “Fortunately nothing’s broken and we have this weekend off. That will give me enough time to heal.”

If Hayden hasn’t fully recovered for the next scheduled race, he will forfeit the event in order to be 100% fit for Gaylord, Michigan on March 26 and final round of the CSRA Canadian Snowcross Championship on April 10/11 at Horseshoe Valley in Barrie, Ontario. From the outset of the season the CSRA Pro Open Championship has been Hayden’s and one of the team’s main objective.

Hayden will go into the ultimate showdown of the season in Barrie with 412 points, the same tally as his archrival in the Pro Open title hunt, Lee Butler. Rounding off the top three is Michael Island, who has 346 points on the board.

Meanwhile, during a weekend of no factory racing on his schedule at the end of February, Hayden took a pro sled racer’s holiday and attended a CSRA Regional event in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He entered the Pro Open class with his Yamaha FX Nytro® practice sled and capped the weekend with a solid second place in the main.

“This was just a fun race. I just didn’t want to sit around my home for the weekend knowing there was a race going on not too far from my door.  Most of the guys who race the national tour were there as well as old friends who do the regional circuit,” said Hayden. “That I got second on the day was bonus. It says a lot about my Nytro® practice sled. I mean this is pretty well a stock machine and I’ve put a lot of hard miles on it with only basic maintenance done to it.”
