CARMICHAEL LAUNCHES AMATEUR SERIES AT DAYTONA
7 March 2010, 7:11 pm

  From Team Suzuki

Long-time Suzuki rider Ricky Carmichael is at Daytona International Speedway this weekend to help kick-off two full days of amateur Supercross action.

Events will include the inaugural Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross Championship on Sunday and the first-ever Ricky Carmichael University on Monday, March 8th.

Daytona is home turf for Carmichael, so the five-time Daytona Supercross winner has decided to give back to the sport by hosting his own amateur Supercross championship at the famous Daytona International Speedway. The Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross Championship will give riders the unique opportunity to race on the same Carmichael-designed track pros like Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey and Austin Stroupe will race on tonight (Saturday). The championship will include 25 classes for racers of every age and skill level, from youth to senior, and is open to all riders. Carmichael hopes that this new annual event will become the next Lorretta Lynn’s to the amateur Supercross world.

On Monday, he will also be hosting the first-ever Ricky Carmichael University; a one-day-only Supercross school that gives riders the opportunity to hone their skills with the “Greatest of All Time”. Other instructors will be Jeff Emig, Jeff Stanton and Clark Stiles. The sold-out event will start off with an early breakfast hosted by RC and his team, and then the riders will gear up and hit the track.

Carmichael will be demonstrating and teaching RCU attendees many of the techniques and drills that helped the 15-time AMA National Champion achieve his unprecedented level of success in the motocross world. The lessons will focus on the key techniques Carmichael feels riders need to develop to shorten their lap times, including flat turns, rhythm sections, and braking techniques.
